Information about the registration
If you intend to sell medium-strong beer, "folköl", (alcohol content of 2.25-3.5 per cent by volume), either as retail sales or by serving, you must register it with the municipality in which the activities will take place. The activities may not begin until they have been registered. If registration is not made, it is a violation of the law and the trader can be convicted of illegal sales of alcohol.
If you already have an alcohol licence, you do not need to register the serving of medium-strong beer.
Requirements
The following requirements apply to the retail trade in and serving of medium-strong beer:
- The activities must be conducted in a premises that is registered or approved as a regulated in the legislation (Alkohollag 2010:1622).
- Anyone selling beer must make sure that the recipient is a least 18 years old and that the beer is not intended to be given to someone who is not 18 years old or older.
- Food must be sold in connection with beer sales.
- A self-regulation programme must be in place for the activities that is used and works.
Registration and inspection
The municipality handles registration and is also the supervisory authority. They charge an annual supervisory fee for those that conduct sales or service of medium-strong beer.
