Tastings of alcoholic beverages

It requires a permit if you want to organise tastings of alcoholic beverages for the public.

How to apply 

Applications for permanent alcohol licenses should be sent to the municipality in which the activity will be conducted. The application fee for a alcohol license is decided by each municipality and may therefore vary depending on in which municipality the activity will take place.  

After receiving your permanent alcohol license, you need to notify the relevant municipality before every tastings event. 

Information about tastings 

In order to be able to organise tastings of spirits, wine, beer or other fermented alcoholic beverages for the public, you need a permanent alcohol license or a temporary license for tastings:  

  • if you have a permanent alcohol license that covers the drinks that will be served during the tastings and the premises where the tastings will take place, you may organise tastings provided that you notify the municipality before each such event.
  • if you do not have a permanent alcohol license and are a wholesaler, you may apply for a temporary license to organise tastings. 

 

Requirements  

Tastings means serving only a small amount of alcohol, often the equivalent of a tablespoon or less. There are no requirements regarding the serving of food during tastings. The person offering the tastings must charge for the drinks.

Notification and supervision 

Applications for alcohol licenses and notifications of tastings are sent to the relevant municipality. The municipality is the supervisory authority.ee for those that conduct sales or service of medium-strong beer.
