Animals in zoos, on 4H-farms, in city parks and other similar establishments

Before the establishment is opened and the animals begin to be shown for public display, the establishment must be approved by the County Administrative Board.

How to apply

Send your application to the county administrative board.

About the permit

Showing animals to the public at least 7 days a year with or without an entrance fee is counted as a public display.

The rules do not only apply to what is colloquially called a zoo, but also cover, for example, restaurants, city parks and 4H farms that keep animals for public display for at least 7 days a year.

Wild animals

To keep wild animals for public display, a permit is also required in accordance with the Species Protection Ordinance. Read more on the page Species of wild animals in zoos (see link).

Permit issuer and supervision

The county administrative board issues permits and is the supervisory authority.
