SNI - important to have the right code!
When you register a business, you must specify which SNI code(s) the business should have. The five-digit code tells you what your company does. If the business changes, you need to update your SNI code yourself - because it affects more than you think.
Here are some examples:
- How credit worthy the company is
- The company's insurance levels
- That you receive the correct information about regulatory changes from authorities
- That the company is taxed correctly
- Your opportunities to apply for different types of grants, for example from the EU
- That the statistics on Swedish companies are of good quality, which in turn affects business policy and legislation.
The SNI codes are getting updated
During next year, the SNI codes will be updated to match the latest common EU industry standard. Not all codes will change, but many do. Retail trade, Restaurant operations and Trade in motor vehicles are examples of industries that are affected. It is your current SNI code that determines whether you will have to choose a new code in 2025. Therefore, it is particularly important that you as a business owner check your SNI code, and update it if it is incorrect.
Easy to change
Changing an existing SNI code, or adding a new one, is easy and costs nothing. You can do it as often as you need and there is no limit to how many codes you can have, as long as they correspond to the business of the company.
SNI
SNI is an abbreviation for Standard för svensk näringsgrensindelning (Standard for Swedish industry division) and is a code system for dividing companies into different industries. The SNI codes describe the type of business a company conducts. Current SNI codes were launched in 2007. They will be updated next year to match the latest EU's common industry standard (NACE).
