Patent your invention
A patent is a protection for a new technical solution. A patent gives you the exclusive right to exploit your invention: no one else can manufacture, sell or import it without your permission.
It is the practical design and use of the invention that you get exclusive rights to. This means that it is not only products but also methods and uses that you can get a patent for. In order for you to get a patent for your invention, it must meet certain requirements.
The invention must be new, involve an inventive step (not within the reach of a person with knowledge in the technical field) and be industrially applicable.
Various examples of patents
There are many examples of Swedish inventions and PRV describes on its website a number of patents that have been registered. The ideas behind the inventions have come about both as solutions to their own problems and as an effort to help someone else.
With a patent you can avoid competition
A patent gives you the exclusive right to commercially exploit an invention, i.e. a technical solution to a problem. This means that you can avoid price competition in the markets where you patent. The right can be bought, sold or licensed. A patent can also make it easier to interest investors, and make it easier if you want to sell your company. A business partner who gets access to protected technology may be willing to pay more for what you have to offer.
