Closing a non-profit association

A non-profit association must be deregistered if its operations cease.

1. Terminate the association

When a non-profit association is to be dissolved, the association's statutes determine how it will be done. Therefore, the process may differ in different associations. For example, an association may be dissolved by a vote at two different meetings, one of which is an annual meeting.

2. Deregister the company registration number with the Swedish Tax Agency

The association must be terminated before it can be deregistered with the Swedish Tax Agency. The association must also have no assets or liabilities remaining.

When the association is terminated, you deregister the association. You do this by submitting the form Avregistrering av organisationsnummer för ideell förening eller stiftelse (Deregistration of registration number for non-profit association or foundation) to the Swedish Tax Agency.
