How to apply
Send your application to the Swedish Schools Inspectorate.
To start or expand an independent school (compulsory school, compulsory school for pupils with learning disabilities, upper secondary school or upper secondary school for pupils with learning disabilities), preschool class or after-school recreation centre, you need to apply to be approved as organiser of the independent school. You apply to the Swedish Schools Inspectorate. The applicant must show that there is access to suitable premises, finances to guarantee an ongoing and stable operation, and that the activity lives up to the goals set for education. The applicant also must show that it meets the requirements regarding experience and insight as well as suitability of the independent school authority and/or the owners. When examining the finances of the applicant, the finances of the corporate group will be taken into account where applicable.
The application must be received by the Swedish Schools Inspectorate by 31 January at the latest of the year before the school plans to start its operations.The Swedish Schools Inspectorate conducts an establishment check before the school starts to ensure that the planning presented by the school has actually been implemented.
The Swedish Schools Inspectorate also administer applications to start an international school.
