Security firms

A security firm must be authorised by the county administrative board (länsstyrelse) to be able to conduct its activities.

How to apply

Applications for authorisation are sent to one of the county administrative in the list depending on where the company resides. Applications for approval of personnel are sent to one of the county administrative boards in the list depending on where the person is supposed to be working. Both of these applications are subject to a fee.

All personnel, including those who are not security guards, must be approved for employment. A security firm is a company that professionally guards real estate, facilities, certain activities, public functions, certain property in transit, or a private individual.

To be authorised, the security firm must be assumed to be conducted in a competent and judicious manner and otherwise in agreement with generally accepted practice in the industry. The activity must fulfill the requirements for the specific type of security work and may not have what would generally be considered to be an inappropriate emphasis.

Applications for approval of personnel are filed by the security firm that has employed or is intending to employ a person. The person who is to be approved must be law-abiding, civilly reliable, and otherwise suitable for the job.
