Short term stay away from home (LSS)

A person with a functional impairment may temporarily need to live away from their own home for a shorter or longer period of time. Such service is called a 'short stay' and may be organised as a short-term home, a camp or a summer camp. The service may be offered regularly or in the event of an urgent family need.

The initiative is available to both children and adults. The aim is for family members to experience respite and space for relaxation, and to provide the person with a functional impairment leisure time and a change of environment. It may also be a way of contributing to an emancipation process between children and guardians, or as a form of preparation for those who are moving away from home.

There must be a supervisor for the service, who is responsible for the daily work and for ensuring that the service is conducted with good quality and provides good care.
